Yousuf Karsh - My favourite Portrait Photographer. I visited his studio in Toronto when I was at Ryerson, but unfortunately I did not have the opportunity of meeting him.
Annie Leibovitz - We all know her work. From Rolling Stone magazine to Vanity Fair, Vogue and even the Queen. I have linked to her Facebook page.
Alfred Eisenstaedt - “The father of photojournalism”. Worked with Life magazine for years. I was lucky enough to attend a showing of his original photographs which included quotes about his shooting philosophy. If I believed in reincarnation, I would be him.
Edward Weston - Founded Group f/64 with Ansel Adams. Spawned a whole family of photographers.
Ansel Adams - If you ever get a chance to see his originals, don’t miss it. The reproductions, while excellent, just aren’t the same. I was lucky enough to catch a show in Toronto. Did you know he did portraits to earn enough money to be a photographer?
Joe McNally - The guy who can shoot anything, anywhere. Shot the first digital cover for National Geographic. Shot from the top of the Empire State building.
David Hobby - The King of Strobist. Need I say more?
